What to do during school break

School holidays are approaching, an ideal time to do something with the kids for family fun. Many times we cannot think of where to go. Lately it has been raining a lot, so it might not be very wise to go to a river with the possibility of flash floods, or the beach at high tide.
A good option is rural and historic tourism. Panama has many very picturesque villages full of history. In Penonomé, for example, you can stay at any of the rural cottages that are operated by locals and travel around the town during the day. Local guides can take you to visit some of its beautiful mountains, such as the imposing Cerro Guacamaya, to see the Zaratí river and listen to the legend that gave it its name, the San Juan Bautista Cathedral or the local museum.
Penonomé is a quiet village 2 hours from the capital city, with good road access and a pleasant climate. On a rainy afternoon is very nice to sit in one of the terraces to contemplate the nature or just people watch.
